Cryptocoryne Petchii is a medium sized, hardy Crypt species prized for its compact attractive reddish-brown hues. Native to Sri Lanka, this slow-growing plant forms neat rosettes that make it ideal for midground and background placement. It’s perfect for aquarists who want an easy, low-maintenance plant that adds subtle color and texture to their aquascape.

Key Features

  • Compact, rosette-shaped growth ideal for midground and background
  • Leaves range from olive green to reddish-brown under moderate light
  • Hardy and adaptable to a wide range of water conditions
  • Perfect for low-tech aquariums and beginner aquascapers
  • Provides natural cover for shrimp and small fish

Care Tips

  • Lighting: Low to moderate lighting keeps steady growth and healthy color
  • CO₂ & Fertilization: CO₂ is not required; root tabs, nutrient-rich substrate, and/or liquid fertilizer encourages vibrant coloration
  • Temperature: Thrives in 68–82°F (20–28°C)
  • Water Conditions: Prefers pH 6.0–7.5; soft to moderately hard water
  • Planting & Growth: Plant the roots gently in substrate with the crown above the surface to prevent rot
  • Maintenance: Minimal trimming required; may experience “Crypt melt” when first introduced but regrows once established
