Red Moss (Caloglossa cf. beccarii) is a rare and visually striking "moss" which is actually a red algae!  It is known for its deep red to auburn hues and unlike traditional green mosses, this species adds a rich, warm contrast to planted aquariums, making it a favorite among aquascapers. It thrives when attached to driftwood, rocks, or mesh and grows in delicate, feathery patterns. Care Tips

  • Lighting: Thrives in low light. Moderate to high full spectrum lighting enhances red coloration and promotes growth.
  • CO₂ & Fertilization: CO₂ is not required but can help intensify the red hues; benefits from liquid fertilizer.
  • Temperature: Prefers water temperatures between 68–78°F (20–26°C).
  • Water Conditions: Thrives in a pH range of 6.0–7.5 with soft to moderately hard water. I grow it above 7.0.
  • Attachment & Placement: Best attached to rocks, driftwood, or mesh; avoid burying in the substrate. TIE OR WEDGE, DON'T GLUE!
  • Trimming & Maintenance: Occasional trimming helps maintain shape and prevent overgrowth.
  • Propagation: Easily propagated by cutting and reattaching small portions to new surfaces.
  • THIS IS AN ALGAE - Do not treat with ANY algae treaments like Excel or H2o2. It will die!
